Passat Hybrid Stalls While Driving, Warning Light On

My Passat hybrid suddenly keeps stalling out while driving. The warning light in the dash came on and I noticed the idle stop feature no longer works. The car seems to out of nowhere shut off even when moving. Already had issues with a mechanic before, so looking for advice before taking it back. Anyone experienced something similar with their hybrid vehicle? Its a 2015 model with 15483km.

Had the exact same battery issue with my 2018 VW Golf GTE hybrid last month. The symptoms match perfectly, unusual engine stalling, start-stop system failing, and warning lights. The problem was twofold: the main hybrid battery was heavily discharged and the conventional 12V battery was defective. The starter motor was trying to compensate but couldn't handle the load, especially when the eco mode was active. The fix required: Full diagnostic scan, Replacement of the 12V battery, Recalibration of the battery management system, Reset of the start-stop system This was quite a serious repair job requiring specialized hybrid diagnostic equipment. The car needed to stay at the shop for 2 days while they balanced both battery systems. Regular mechanics often miss the connection between the two battery systems in hybrids. Worth noting that low mileage can actually contribute to battery issues, as hybrid batteries perform better with regular use. Would recommend getting it checked by a certified hybrid specialist to avoid further engine stalling incidents.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the hybrid battery issue. Just went through similar problems with my Passat GTE recently. Good to know I wasnt the only one dealing with engine stalling and start-stop system failures. Did you remember roughly how much the full repair cost? The idle stop feature on mine is working perfectly now after the fix, but wondering if your repair bill was similar. Also curious if youve had any other electrical issues pop up since the battery replacement? The eco mode on mine seems much more responsive now too. Just hoping the fix stays permanent and doesnt require another workshop visit anytime soon.

Since getting the repairs done on my Golf GTE, everything has been running smoothly. The total cost came to 290€ for diagnosing and fixing the battery issue that was causing the engine stalling. The best part is the start-stop system now works flawlessly, no more unusual shutdowns or warning lights. No other electrical problems have surfaced in the months following the repair. The mechanics properly balanced both battery systems, which seems to have resolved all the issues. The eco mode performance definitely improved after they recalibrated everything. The starter motor is engaging perfectly now, and the car feels much more reliable overall. Looks like catching the battery problem early and having it properly repaired by specialists was the right call. Worth every cent to have a properly functioning hybrid system again.

The visit to the mechanic turned out better than expected. After seeing your similar experience, I took my Passat to a certified hybrid specialist who immediately identified the battery issue. The diagnostic showed both batteries needed attention, just like your case. They kept the car for 3 days and performed a complete system overhaul. Total cost was 340€, which included the new 12V battery, diagnostics, and recalibration. The automatic restart feature works perfectly now, and no more unusual engine stalling. After 2 weeks of driving, the car runs like new. The hybrid system maintains proper charge, and the eco mode performs great. Really glad I asked here first, saved me from another frustrating experience with my regular mechanic who probably would have missed the dual battery connection. The start-stop system hasnt failed once since the repair. Definitely worth paying a bit more for a proper fix by specialists who understand hybrid vehicles.
