Pathfinder Diesel Power Loss Whistle
Summary of the thread
The 2012 Nissan Pathfinder Diesel experienced power loss, poor engine response, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise turning into a loud hissing during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a potential boost pressure issue, likely related to the turbocharger or intercooler pipes. The problem was identified as a defect in the wastegate valve, which was confirmed and repaired by a workshop, resolving the issues.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the wastegate valve specifically. Where exactly is it located, and how would I go about checking its movement?

Dude, the wastegate is usually attached directly to the turbo. Checking it yourself can be tricky, especially if you're not super familiar with turbos. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd bite the bullet and take it to a trusted workshop. A faulty wastegate will definitely cause boost problems. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a shop, and they confirmed it was a defect in the wastegate valve. Repair cost me 860€. Runs great now!

Whoa, that sounds rough! A whistling/hissing noise plus power loss screams turbo issues to me. Has anyone checked the intercooler pipes? They're prone to cracking and leaking boost. Also, could be the turbocharger itself. Is the wastegate valve moving freely? That could cause all sorts of problems.
