Last service done at 157553 KM confirmed the turbo wastegate was indeed causing the issues mentioned. A thorough inspection revealed several worn components in the turbo system, leading to significant boost leaks. The mechanic found the turbo actuator had excessive play and the wastegate was not maintaining proper boost pressure control. After replacing both components plus associated seals and gaskets, the whistling disappeared completely and power was fully restored. Total repair cost was 850 Euro which included: New turbo actuator assembly, Wastegate replacement, Pressure testing of the complete system, Labor costs The engine now runs smoothly with no more stalling or power issues. Regular boost pressure readings show everything is working as intended.

Thanks for the update on your Patriot repair. Your experience mirrors what happened with my Compass after a few months, the initial actuator valve issue was actually part of a larger turbo system problem that needed addressing. While my initial repair was cheaper, I ended up having to go back for a complete turbo actuator replacement about 3 months later when the pressure sensor started showing erratic readings. The total cost ended up being similar to yours, around 800 Euro for the complete job. The comprehensive fix you got done was definitely the right call. Just replacing single components often leads to recurring issues since the entire turbo system works as one unit. The proper pressure testing they did is crucial, this helps identify any hidden boost leaks that could cause problems later. Would recommend keeping an eye on your boost pressure readings for the next few weeks. In my case, it took about 500km of driving for the new components to fully settle in and the readings to stabilize completely. The engine management system sometimes needs time to adapt to the new actuator settings.

Thank you for sharing those repair details. My initial suspicion about the turbo actuator being the culprit was correct, though the issue turned out more extensive than first thought. The complete diagnosis revealed multiple failing components in the turbo system, not just the wastegate issue I originally suspected. Our symptoms matched closely, the power loss, whistling, and erratic boost pressure behavior. Having the complete turbo system pressure tested proved valuable since it uncovered additional boost leaks that weren't immediately apparent. The 850 Euro repair cost was higher than expected but justified given the comprehensive work needed: New turbo actuator assembly, Wastegate replacement, Full system pressure testing, Labor for the complete job The results speak for themselves, no more stalling, proper boost control, and restored engine performance. The mechanic recommended monitoring boost pressure readings for the next few weeks as the new components break in. Will update the thread if any issues develop, but so far the repair seems to have fully resolved the problems.

I actually had a comparable issue with my 2012 Compass diesel last year. I have some basic experience working on turbo systems, though I usually leave complex repairs to professionals. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I experienced, power loss, whistling sounds, and that annoying boost pressure fluctuation. The turbo actuator fault in my case was traced to an electrical bypass valve that had completely failed. The repair cost me 250 Euro including parts and labor. The workshop confirmed it was just the bypass valve that needed replacement, not the entire turbocharger assembly. They performed a complete diagnostic of the boost control system to ensure no other components were affected. Could you share some additional details to help narrow down the issue: Current mileage on your Patriot, Any diagnostic codes being shown, Does the power loss happen gradually or suddenly, Have you noticed any black smoke from the exhaust This would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with my Compass. The turbo actuator problems can sometimes be misdiagnosed, so having complete information helps ensure the right fix.
