Patrol Diesel Engine Won't Start
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Nissan Patrol with a diesel engine wouldn't start, and the check engine light was on, suggesting a potential engine control malfunction. The owner suspected issues with the fuel injection or ECU but found the battery cable connections seemed okay. Upon further inspection and cleaning of the battery connections, the problem was resolved, indicating that the initial issue was due to poor contact at the battery terminals.

When you say 'bad connection,' could you elaborate? Visibly corroded, or something more subtle? I visually inspected them, but maybe I missed something? Was your check engine light on? Any engine stalling before this?

The connection seemed fine at first glance. No visible corrosion, nothing obviously loose. But the cable ends weren't making perfect contact. I cleaned them up properly, tightened everything, and it solved the problem. If that doesn't solve it, take it to a workshop.

Following your advice, I re-examined the battery cable connections, and they were indeed faulty! After cleaning and securing them, my Patrol started! The problem disappeared. I didn't make good contact, apparently. The workshop quoted me 155€ for this. Very happy now!

I own a Patrol, not the same year but close. I had a similar issue. The engine would crank but not fire up, right? Did you check the battery cable connections thoroughly? I once had a bad connection that prevented it from starting.
