Patrol diesel particulate filter pressure issue

I have a 2009 Nissan Patrol with a diesel engine, mileage is at 209196 km. Getting a 'diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure too low' error. Warning light is on, engine power is reduced, and there's smoke when accelerating plus a strong exhaust smell. I suspect the exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else had this?

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Patrol (diesel as well). Those symptoms point to more than just the sensor, but it's a good place to start. Did you check the sensor's wiring and connections? A loose or corroded connector can sometimes trigger false readings. Also, have you checked for any exhaust leaks before the DPF? Even a small leak messes with the pressure readings.

Thanks for the tips. Wiring looks ok at first glance, but I'll double-check for corrosion. I haven't spotted any leaks yet, but will give the exhaust a thorough inspection. If it's not the wiring or obvious leaks, is the sensor the likely culprit?

Yeah, after eliminating the obvious stuff like wiring and leaks, the sensor is the most probable cause. The sensor itself might be faulty, or the DPF could be clogged beyond what the system can handle. I ended up just taking mine to the workshop. Replacing the sensor fixed it, but they also did a forced regen just to be sure. Cost me about 245€ if that helps.

I appreciate the insight. I'll do a more detailed check and then probably head to a shop. Thanks again for confirming, very helpful!
