Thanks for the tip! Clogged hoses, you say? Where exactly should I be looking, and how would I know if they're actually clogged? Is it a difficult job?

Well, it's not always easy to spot. The hoses run from the fuel tank to the purge valve, which is connected to the engine. A visual inspection might reveal cracks or obvious blockages, but sometimes you need to disconnect them and try blowing through to check for resistance. Honestly, unless you're really comfortable working on fuel systems, it might be best to have a workshop take a look. A faulty purge valve can also cause issues.

Right, I understand. It's probably best to let someone else take care of it. I'll bring it to the workshop. They found out that the hoses were indeed clogged, and the valve was malfunctioning, too. The whole repair was 175€ Thanks a lot for the advice!

I have a Patrol as well (though not a 2002 model). I had very similar symptoms a while ago. The engine light was on, and the engine would stall. Did you check the hoses connected to the tank ventilation valve? They are prone to clogging and that can cause problems.
