Thanks, that's helpful. By plug connection, do you mean the connector on the filter itself? Or somewhere further back in the wiring?

Yes, the connector on the filter, but trace the wires back a little way too. It's worth checking for any chafing or damage. If that all looks good, it might be the heater itself, but I'd get it checked by a workshop anyway. Mine turned out to be just a corroded pin in the connector, but chasing electrical gremlins can be a real pain.

Appreciate the advice. Turns out you were spot on - corroded connector on the filter. Cleaned it up and all good. Cost me 95€ at the workshop. Thanks!

I had similar symptoms on my Patrol. Check the fuel filter heater wiring and plug connection. Those Patrols are built like tanks, but the electrics can be a bit sensitive – a loose connection can cause all sorts of problems. Think of it like a loose spark plug wire on an old petrol engine; everything runs rough.
