Patrol handsfree microphone failure
Summary of the thread
The hands-free microphone in a 2004 Nissan Patrol has stopped working, rendering telephony and speech recognition non-functional. This issue may be due to a defective infotainment system, as similar problems have been resolved by replacing the unit. Checking audio input settings and volume control is suggested, but if these are configured correctly, professional diagnosis and potential replacement of the infotainment system may be necessary.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Yes, I've checked the audio input settings and volume control multiple times. Everything seems to be configured correctly. The speech recognition is also failing, which leads me to believe it's not just a volume issue. Did yours behave the same way?

Yep, pretty much identical. Speech recognition went haywire, volume adjustments did nothing, nada. Truthfully, after fiddling with it for a week, I just took it to a workshop. Turned out to be a glitch in the infotainment unit itself, needed a replacement. Sadly, the final bill came to around 815€.

I appreciate the insight. Seems like I'm headed for the same fate. I'll take it to a workshop and have them diagnose the infotainment system. Thank you for sharing your experience; it saved me a lot of unnecessary troubleshooting!

Hmm, sounds familiar. I have a Patrol too, though a bit newer. Had a similar problem where the microphone just cut out. Like trying to have a conversation in a wind tunnel, all ambient noise, no actual voice input. Have you checked the audio input settings and volume control? Just covering the basics first.
