Petra Alarm System Fault

I have a 2008 Fiat Petra, diesel engine, with about 207,000 kilometers. The anti-theft alarm system has a fault. The error memory stores a fault, and the alarm system isn't working. Diagnostics suggest the alarm system is erroneously coded to activate optical locking. Has anyone else seen this?

Summary of the thread

A 2008 Fiat Petra owner experienced a fault with the anti-theft alarm system, which diagnostics suggested was due to erroneous coding for optical locking. Another owner with a similar issue advised that the problem might be with the security alarm module or sensor and recommended professional diagnosis. The issue was resolved by recoding the alarm system at a workshop, restoring its functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I own a Petra as well, and had a similar problem last year. Is it totally dead? Did you check for any signs of a power failure? It may sound silly, but it can happen. The immobilizer system went bonkers in my car! Is the alarm light flashing, constantly on, or off?

Thanks for the quick reply! The alarm light is off completely. I've checked the main fuses, but haven't gone deeper than that. What exactly was the issue with your Petra?

Aha! Light off completely, that's what happened to mine too! Forget the fuses for now. It sounds like the security alarm module is toast, or there's something off with the alarm sensor. It is probably programmed like a washing machine set to 'blink furiously'. I know that fixing it yourself is appealing, but trust me on this one and go to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly with professional tools. It seems minor, but can save you a massive headache!

Thanks for confirming my suspicions and for the advice. I took it to a workshop. The problem was indeed the alarm system coding. They recoded it, and it's now working perfectly. The total cost was 45€.
