Petra headlight range control fault
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a headlight range control fault in a 2015 Fiat Petra diesel, where the low beam is improperly adjusted, and a warning light is on. A possible cause suggested is corroded or loose electrical connectors to the servomotor in the headlight assembly. Checking these connectors is recommended before considering more costly repairs, such as replacing a potentially defective servomotor. A workshop visit to check fault codes is also advised for a more accurate diagnosis.

Thank you for your suggestion. Could you elaborate on the specific location of these electrical connectors? Also, did you observe any other symptoms besides the beam adjustment issue?

Yeah, sure thing. The connectors are right on the back of the headlight unit itself; you'll probably need to remove the headlight to get a good look/access. And you're right to ask about other symptoms! Mine was pretty cut and dry (just the beam issue and the light on the dash), but honestly, messing with car electrics is a pain. I'd still have a workshop check the fault codes too. If it's not the connectors, it might be a defective servomotor in the headlight – that's what it ended up being for me, and it was not cheap. Ended up costing me around 1040€.

I appreciate the additional details and the potential cost insight. It seems a visit to a workshop is indeed necessary. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had something similar happen on my Petra. Check your electrical connectors to the servomotor in the headlight assembly. They can get corroded or loose, which messes with the auto-leveling. It's worth a shot before you start replacing parts.
