Peugeot 1007 EGR Valve Issue

Alright, I'm officially stumped. My 2007 Peugeot 1007, diesel engine, is giving me fits. It's got about 51822 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, power is way down, and it's smoking when I accelerate. Idles rough, fuel consumption is up, and it's jerking and hissing when I put my foot down. Sounds like the EGR valve, right? I mean, that's what I'm leaning towards. Anyone else had similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Peugeot 1007 with a diesel engine exhibited symptoms such as a check engine light, reduced power, smoke during acceleration, rough idling, increased fuel consumption, and a hissing sound under load. These issues suggested a problem with the EGR valve, which was suspected to be jammed or defective. After taking the car to a workshop, the EGR valve was confirmed to be the cause and was replaced, resolving the issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had something similar happen in my 1007. Not sure about the smoke, but the rough running, power loss, and check engine light were all there. Did you notice any change after the emissions test? Could you give a bit more detail on the hissing sound? Does it happen constantly or only under load?

The emissions test was fine, actually, which throws me off a bit. The hissing is definitely only when accelerating, and gets louder the harder I accelerate. Almost like a vacuum leak, but it's tied to the engine load, not just RPM. It's not constant; goes away when I'm cruising or idling. I also tried recirculating the exhaust gas, but it didn't fix the issue.

Okay, the emissions test passing is a bit strange, but the hissing under load and the other symptoms still point strongly to the EGR valve. If exhaust recirculation didn't fix anything, it's probably jammed or defective. Given the symptoms and mileage, I would recommend a visit to the workshop. It's like trying to diagnose a blocked artery yourself - sometimes you just need a professional.

I appreciate the insight. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on – EGR valve was toast. 355€ later, and she's running like new. No more smoke, power's back, and the hissing's gone. Thanks again!
