Peugeot 1007 Engine Malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Peugeot 1007 with a gasoline engine and high mileage was experiencing an engine control malfunction and wouldn't start. Initial checks of the fuel pump, spark plugs, and fuses did not resolve the issue, leading to a suspicion of ECU failure. However, it was suggested to thoroughly clean and secure the battery cable connections, as poor connections can cause such problems. After cleaning the connections, the car started successfully, indicating that the issue was due to a poor ground connection.

Yeah, the check engine light is on. I don't have an OBD reader to pull the codes. As for the battery cables, I gave them a quick look, they seemed okay. Should I disconnect them and clean them properly?

A 'quick look' isn't going to cut it. Disconnect both terminals, clean them thoroughly with a wire brush, and make sure the connections are tight when you reattach them. Rule out the simple stuff first. But frankly, if the check engine light is on and you can't read the code, you're shooting in the dark. You should visit a workshop. They can check the fuel injection, too.

You were spot on. I cleaned the battery cable connections properly, and it fired right up! The connection to ground was not good. Cost me 155€ in the workshop. Thanks for the advice!

ECU failure is a possibility, but let's not jump to conclusions. Have you thoroughly checked your battery cable connections? A poor connection can cause issues, especially on older Peugeots. They are very sensitive. Do you have a check engine light? Can you read the engine software?
