Peugeot 1007 Gearbox Paddle Shifter Issue

My 2007 Peugeot 1007 diesel is making me crazy. 293120 km on the clock. The gearbox is acting up – paddle shifters don’t work, it slips gears, and makes awful grinding noises. It’s like the paddle shifters are super slow, plus the gearbox is stuck in emergency mode. An error message keeps popping up. Anyone seen this before?

I had similar gearbox issues with my 1007! Sounds like it could be the transmission control unit, also known as the car's computer, or ECU (Engine Control Unit). When mine went, I saw similar symptoms. Does the error memory also mention something about the transmission?

Thanks for the quick reply! Transmission control unit, huh? The error code is definitely gearbox related. What exactly did yours do? Was it expensive to fix?

Yes, the error was specifically related to the transmission control unit being defective. Unfortunately, a new control unit and fitting it set me back around 1000€. Diagnosis is key; a workshop with good transmission diagnosis skills will be able to test the car computer properly, which will tell you for certain if it's the problem. Given the symptoms, it really does sound like a defective control unit.

Thanks so much for the info! Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop then. I'll tell them to check the car computer, and hopefully get it sorted. After visiting the workshop, the error memory was read out, and they confirmed it was indeed the transmission control unit. After it was replaced, the shifting problems were completely gone! All in all, it cost me around 1000€.
