Peugeot 1007 Headlight Range Control Fault

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2006 Peugeot 1007, gasoline engine. The car has 198531 km on the clock. A warning light has illuminated, and the error memory indicates a fault relating to the headlight range control. The low beams seem to be shining either far too low or far too high. It's quite distracting and I'm starting to worry about dazzling other drivers. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2006 Peugeot 1007 involves a fault in the headlight range control, causing the low beams to shine incorrectly. The problem is likely due to a defective servomotor, as indicated by a warning light and error message. It is recommended to have a professional diagnose and repair the issue, as the system can be complex and challenging to fix without specialized knowledge.

I had a similar experience with my old Volvo; the symptoms sound eerily alike. The auto-leveling system went completely haywire after just a minor fender-bender. Does the headlight switch seem to be working properly, and have you checked the light intensity yourself? It sounds like a defective servomotor and, it's not fun when your beams start doing their own dance.

Thank you for the quick response! I did check the headlight switch; it seems responsive, but doesn't seem to change much, and I tried adjusting manually, but same issue. You mentioned a servomotor—is that something I can easily check myself, or is it best left to professionals? I'm moderately handy, but definitely not a mechanic.

I'd advise against amateur surgery. These systems can be surprisingly complex. In my case, the control system was completely fried, and it took a specialist to diagnose it properly. By the sounds of things (warning light/error message), I think it is highly likely that the servomotor is the issue. Best to go to the workshop.

Much appreciated! I was hoping to avoid the workshop, but it seems like that's the most prudent course of action. I took it to the shop, they came to exactly the same conclusion, as you. Defective servomotor in the headlight. Repair cost: 1040€. I wish it was less, but at least I can get it fixed.
