Peugeot 1007 Overvoltage Error

I'm having a persistent electrical issue with my 2006 Peugeot 1007 gasoline. It has 226572 km. I'm getting an overvoltage error. Symptoms include numerous fault memory entries pointing to overvoltage, failure of onboard systems, weak battery during engine start attempts, and general electrical malfunctions. I suspect a car ECU issue but am unsure. Could a failing alternator or voltage regulator cause such widespread problems?

Sounds like it could be a serious power surge. Did you check the battery condition? A heavily discharged or defective battery can cause overvoltage issues as the alternator tries to compensate.

Thanks for the swift reply! I have checked the battery, and while it holds a charge, it does seem weaker than usual. Could a weak battery truly cause the system to report overvoltage, or might it be a symptom of the overvoltage condition itself, slowly damaging the battery?

A weak battery can definitely trigger an overvoltage scenario. The alternator works overtime to charge a failing battery, leading to voltage spikes. I still would take it to a workshop for detailed analysis.

Understood, I appreciate your help in clarifying the battery's role. You were right, a new battery resolved the issues, the garage confirmed. Final cost: 290€ Thank you again!
