Peugeot 1007 power steering fault
Summary of the thread
The 2008 Peugeot 1007 is experiencing power steering issues, with symptoms including a vibrating and spongy steering wheel and intermittent steering effort. The problem may be caused by faulty cable and plug connections to the steering pump, as suggested by a similar past experience. The recommended solution is to have the connections checked and repaired professionally, which resolved the issue in this case.

Thanks for the tip! It's intermittent. Sometimes it's fine, other times it's like wrestling a bear. Where exactly is the steering pump located? Is it easy to get to the connections?

Okay, intermittent points to a connection issue for sure. Honestly, it's a bit fiddly to get to, and if you're not comfortable working around hydraulics, I'd advise against it. It's located low down in the engine bay. Best bet is to get it checked at a workshop; they can pinpoint it properly. I eventually had to get mine sorted professionally.

Cheers! I appreciate the advice. I'll get it booked in. The diagnosis was a defective connector as you suspected, and the repair set me back 95€. Thanks again.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my 1007. Check the cable and plug connections to the steering pump. It’s like a loose wire on a lamp – sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Is the steering heavy all the time, or does it come and go?
