Peugeot 106 ABS Lateral Sensor Fault

I've got a bit of a head-scratcher with my 2002 Peugeot 106 (gasoline engine). The ABS light keeps popping up, and the whole ABS system seems to be failing intermittently. I ran a scan, and it's throwing a code related to the lateral acceleration sensor. Mileage is at 43767 km. I've checked the wiring as best I can, but I'm not really sure where to go from here. Could a faulty lateral sensor really cause the whole ABS to shut down? Anyone else run into this?

I had something similar happen with my 106, though I can't remember the exact year. ABS light, the whole shebang. From what I remember, the lateral acceleration sensor is tied into the yaw rate sensor and steering angle sensor – basically, the electronic stability system. So, yeah, if that sensor is wonky, it can definitely mess with the ABS. Did the error code point specifically to a defective sensor, or was it more of a general 'implausible signal' type of error?

Thanks for the quick reply! The error code was pretty specific, mentioned something about a 'lateral acceleration sensor fault'. I'm just a bit hesitant to start throwing parts at it without being sure. Was your error code the same? And did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you have to take it to a shop?

Yeah, mine was the same error code, now that you mention it. I tried fiddling with it myself at first, checking connections, etc., but no luck. Honestly, in the end, I just took it to a workshop. They reckoned the control unit itself was defective and that it was a known issue. They replaced the whole thing. Cost a small fortune, unfortunately.

Ouch, that's not what I wanted to hear! Sounds like I might be in for a pricey repair. I'll probably take it to a shop then, as I don't have the equipment for that. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience, though. At least I have an idea of what I'm looking at. I appreciate it!
