Peugeot 106 AC failure

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with the AC in my 2000 Peugeot 106 diesel. Only done 39728 km. The air conditioning has just stopped cooling completely. It doesn't even seem to switch on when I press the button. I've checked fuses, but they seem fine. Could it be a pressure switch or is it likely a bigger problem? I'm not super clued up on AC systems, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Summary of the thread

The air conditioning in a 2000 Peugeot 106 diesel has stopped cooling and doesn't activate when the button is pressed. Fuses have been checked and appear fine, leading to speculation about a possible pressure switch issue or a more significant problem. Suggestions include checking the AC compressor, but due to the complexity and potential risks of dealing with pressurized systems, professional diagnosis and repair are recommended.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi there, that sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Clio a few years back. The AC just packed in. Did you notice any strange noises before it stopped working completely? Sometimes a faulty compressor can cause issues like that. The AC compressor is a pump, driven by the engine via a belt, that circulates refrigerant and compresses it.

Thanks for the reply! I don't recall any odd noises beforehand, which is strange. Just suddenly stopped working. When you say compressor, is that something I can check myself, or is it best left to a professional? Also, did you manage to fix the problem yourself on your Clio?

No problem. In my Clio the problem was eventually diagnosed as individual defective valves in the air conditioning system. Honestly, AC systems can be tricky, as they deal with pressurized gas. I didn't attempt the repair myself on my Clio. I'd advise getting it checked out by a workshop. It could save you money in the long run by avoiding further damage.

Okay, thanks for the advice! Sounds like a trip to the workshop is on the cards then. I appreciate you sharing your experience with your Clio. They've quoted me 1000€ for fixing defective valves. Hopefully, they can sort it out without too much hassle!
