Peugeot 106 belt tensioner issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2000 Peugeot 106, it's the diesel version. Got almost 300k km on the clock. The belt tensioner isn't working anymore. Pretty sure it's the belt tensioner that's gone bad. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Peugeot 206 a while back. Is it making a kind of whirring noise, especially when the engine's cold? Could be the tensioner pulley giving up the ghost. Check the belt drive itself too, just in case.

Yeah, there's a weird noise, kind of a whine, especially in the morning. The belt drive looks okay at a glance, but I haven't really dug deep. You think it's definitely the tensioner then? How much did it cost you to fix?

With that whining noise, yeah, I'm leaning towards the tensioner pulley being the culprit. I tried to DIY it, but messed it up completely! Had to take it to a workshop anyway. Best to get it checked out professionally, especially with the timing belt involved. Don't want it snapping!

Right, that makes sense. I'll book it in with a local place. Thanks for the advice! Turns out you were spot on. They said it was the belt tensioner and the whole repair, including parts and labor, came to 455€. Ouch!
