I tried disconnecting the battery for a while, hoping for a reset, but no luck. Nothing has been done recently on the car, the error occurred suddenly. What do you mean by 'record skipping'? What else could it be?

Okay, battery disconnect didn't do the trick, bummer. By 'record skipping', I mean the ECU's programming is corrupted, like a scratched record causing the needle to jump. Since a reset didn't work, and no work was done prior, it unfortunately points to a deeper problem – a fault within the control unit itself. Your best bet is to take it to a workshop with the right tools to re-flash or replace the ECU. Sounds like the garage quoted you about 240€, right? It's a bitter pill, but it should sort it.

Thanks for the insights! Seems like a trip to the workshop is unavoidable. I'll get the ECU re-flashed as suggested. Apparently, the programming was faulty. It cost me 240€ to get it repaired. At least it's running smoothly now.

Whoa, sounds like your Peugeot's brain is having a serious glitch! Electrical gremlins are the worst. The 'implausible programming' you mentioned – that's like a record skipping on a vinyl.
