Peugeot 106 Hissing and Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Peugeot 106 diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, a loud hissing sound, and increased fuel consumption. These issues are suspected to be related to a faulty intake manifold flap control. The hissing sound is a key indicator of this problem. Repairing the defective intake manifold control resolved the issues, restoring the car's performance.

Thanks! The problem seems to be persistent regardless of the engine temperature. When you mention a faulty valve, are you referring to the switch intake manifold control specifically? Could that be the cause of all these issues, especially considering the loud hissing?

Aha! That's precisely the issue I was grappling with. The intake manifold flap control, a right nuisance. The hissing is indeed a telltale sign. If it's persistent, I wouldn't delay a trip to the workshop. They'll probably confirm it with diagnostics, but it sounds like you've pinpointed the culprit. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for your insights! I followed your suggestion and took the car to a workshop. As suspected, the switch intake manifold control was indeed defective. The repair cost amounted to 465€. The car is now running smoothly again. I appreciate your help!

Oh dear, that sounds familiar! I drive a Peugeot 106 as well, and I experienced something similar a while back. Reduced power and that hissing... Was your issue perhaps related to the intake system? Maybe a faulty valve or something along those lines? Does it happen all the time or just when the engine is warm? It could be the manifold flap.
