Peugeot 106 Loud Exhaust

I've got a 2002 Peugeot 106 with a gasoline engine. Recently, I've been getting an error message and the exhaust sounds louder than usual, especially on cold starts – really noisy. I suspect it's something to do with the exhaust flaps, maybe they're defective? Anyone else had this?

Hey! Funny you should mention it, I drive a 106 as well and experienced something similar a while back. Louder exhaust, especially when the engine was cold. Did the noise eventually quiet down after the engine warmed up? For me it was like the exhaust was blowing right into my ears!

Yeah, that's exactly it! Noise quiets down a bit after a few minutes. Did you ever figure out what exactly was causing it? Was it definitely the exhaust flaps?

Okay, sounds like we had the same problem! I never got to the bottom of it, to be honest. I took it to a workshop and they sorted it out. They mentioned something about the exhaust needing a new valve or something, but I can't recall exactly. I do remember it costing around 190€. So yeah, take it to the shop, they'll know!

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a trip to the mechanic is in order. Good to know what to expect in terms of cost, too. Cheers!
