Peugeot 106 Oxygen Sensor Fault

My 2000 Peugeot 106 with a gasoline engine has an intermittent check engine light and increased fuel consumption. The error memory indicates an oxygen sensor fault. I suspect a defective cable or plug. Any ideas?

I also own a Peugeot 106 and had similar symptoms. The error codes pointed towards the oxygen sensor, which measures the oxygen in the exhaust. The ECU uses this data to adjust the air-fuel mixture. Did you check the catalytic converter? What kind of error code is it?

I haven't inspected the catalytic converter. Which diagnostic parameter is most relevant for assessing its functionality? I want to rule out any secondary effect before replacing the O2 sensor.

My error code related to the oxygen sensor's signal being out of range. The mechanic said a faulty O2 sensor can mimic catalytic converter problems. Given the age of our cars, it is probably the cable. He suggested testing the sensor's resistance and signal voltage and bringing it to a workshop.

I will get a professional diagnostic assessment at a workshop. I will post the resolution. The oxygen sensor replacement, including labor, cost 95€.
