Peugeot 106 Radar Sensor Error

My 2002 Peugeot 106 diesel is having a weird issue. It's done 197140 km. I'm getting a constant error message about a radar sensor malfunction, and the error is also stored in the error memory. This is causing some other systems to freak out and a warning light is constantly on. I suspect it might be the radar sensor itself. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I've checked the wiring harness for damage, but it all looks fine. Could it just be a dirty sensor?

I had something similar happen in my 106. Radar sensor failures are a pain. Is it affecting your braking or cruise control? A faulty radar sensor will throw up all sorts of weird errors because so many safety systems rely on it. I'd put money on the sensor, but might be worth checking the calibration first.

It is affecting some systems. How would I go about checking the calibration myself? And if it is just a dirty sensor, is there a safe way to clean it, or am I risking making it worse?

Honestly, checking the calibration properly needs the right equipment – you're better off going to a workshop for that. As for cleaning the sensor, I wouldn't risk it. These things are sensitive. I had a similar array of issues and ultimately, I had to replace the sensor. Cost me about 45€, including fitting. Bit of a pain, but worth it for piece of mind.

Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop then. At least I have a better idea of what to expect. It turns out it was a dirty sensor after all and that after cleaning it, it is working again!
