Peugeot 106 rear window heating issue

Afternoon. My 2003 Peugeot 106, diesel engine, is playing up. The rear window heating isn't functioning. Diagnostics are showing an error stored in the error memory. Additionally, the windshield heating doesn't seem to be performing as expected. Mileage is currently at 172632 km. I've checked the relevant fuses and relays, but no joy. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

The rear window heating issue in a 2003 Peugeot 106 was initially suspected to be related to a weak battery, as electrical problems can arise from low voltage. Despite replacing the battery, the problem persisted, indicating a deeper issue. Diagnostics revealed a faulty rear window heating element, which was confirmed and replaced by a workshop, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hi there. That's a bit of a pain, isn't it? I'm no expert, but have you had the battery checked recently? I've read on a few forums that a weak battery can sometimes cause weird electrical issues with the defrost system, particularly the rear window. Also, is the light on the switch illuminating when you activate the rear window heating? Just thinking aloud here...

Good shout on the battery. I'll check it with a multimeter tomorrow. If the voltage is low, would that directly impact the heating coil's performance, or is there some kind of control module that gets affected first? Also, yes, the light on the switch does illuminate when activated. Is that significant?

Right, if the light is on, at least the switch and circuit are probably okay. A low battery can affect the heating coil's performance. Some systems are sensitive to voltage drops. But since you have an error code and windshield is not working, I think it is better take it to workshop, and read error memory.

Thanks for the insight. I checked the battery, and it was indeed heavily discharged and defective. I got it replaced, but that didn't solve the problem. I took it to a local workshop. They confirmed the rear window heating element was faulty and replaced it. Total bill came to 290€. Appreciate the pointer!
