Peugeot 106 Starting Problem

The error message doesn't offer specific details. When the engine fails to start, there is no cranking whatsoever; complete silence. I have visually inspected the clutch switch and its connections, but I did not find any obvious defects. Is there a specific method I should employ to test the switch or the cable?

Complete silence points even more strongly towards that switch or the wiring. Given that you've checked the connections visually, and there's no cranking, it's probably time to take it to a workshop. I messed around with mine for a week, checking fuses and relays, before finally giving in. Turned out to be a faulty switch and some corroded wiring. The bill wasn't bank-breaking, and it saved me a whole lot of frustration. I think the repair cost me around 95€ in the end.

I appreciate your advice and sharing your experience. It appears a trip to the workshop is indeed unavoidable. The estimated repair cost you mentioned is very helpful.

I had a similar problem with my Peugeot 106. Same symptoms: engine sometimes wouldn't start, cruise control was dead, and I was getting some weird readings on the dash. Did you check the clutch switch itself? I remember fiddling with mine for ages, thinking it was something major, when it turned out to be a loose connection. Is the error message you're seeing specific? That could help narrow it down. Also, does the engine crank at all when it won't start, or is it completely silent?
