Peugeot 106 Steering Wheel Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Peugeot 106 diesel exhibited a fault where the multifunction steering wheel was unresponsive, and diagnostics showed an error. The issue was suspected to be a connectivity problem, possibly due to a defective cable connection in the steering wheel. After considering potential causes like wiring damage or a faulty sensor, it was confirmed that the problem was indeed a defective cable connection, which was resolved by a workshop.

Good shout on the steering column connections. Hadn't considered physical damage there, only the wheel itself. With your Astra, was it a straight-forward wiring issue, or did it go deeper? Trying to gauge how much of a headache I'm in for, before I commit to fixing the Peugeot 106.

For the Astra, it turned out to be the clock spring. I probably should have checked the obvious first. The garage I took it to said these things just happen, especially in cars with a lot of steering wheel controls. If you're not comfortable poking around in there yourself I'd suggest a workshop visit.

Cheers for the advice. Ended up being exactly what you suggested, a defective cable connection. Workshop diagnosed it and fixed it for 95€. Appreciate the help!

Interesting issue. I had something similar in my old 2012 Vauxhall Astra petrol. Total loss of multifunction steering wheel operation and a logged error. Did you check the connections in the steering column itself? Any sign of damage to the wiring harness? Wonder if it could also be a faulty sensor somewhere in the wheel?
