Peugeot 106 vibrating steering wheel

Hi, I have a 2002 Peugeot 106 with a gasoline engine. The power steering is acting up. I'm getting a vibrating steering wheel and the handling feels spongy. There's also an error stored. Steering requires increased effort. Suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Corsa. Vibrating steering wheel and error messages...it was a nightmare. Have you checked the wheel alignment? Also, is the steering pump making any unusual noises?

Wheel alignment seems okay. No weird noises from the pump. Just the shaking and the heavy steering. Was your Opel's issue similar in terms of symptoms?

Absolutely! The symptoms were almost identical. In my case, after checking all the connections, the workshop determined that a sensor in the electric steering system was faulty. I would recommend you visit a professional to check the error memory and cable connections.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a defective cable or plug connection like I suspected. Repair cost was 95€. Steering is back to normal now.
