Peugeot 107 Exhaust Flap Issue

I'm getting quite annoyed with my 2005 Peugeot 107, gasoline engine, and its exhaust issues! Only 40171 km on the clock. The error memory keeps flagging something about the exhaust flaps. Honestly, the exhaust noise is louder than usual, and after a cold start, the engine sounds like a tractor. I'm betting the exhaust flap is defective, but I'm not sure how to proceed.

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra, although it was a diesel. Error codes related to the exhaust system, louder exhaust, especially on start-up. Have you checked the flap actuator? That was my first suspect. Are you sure it's the flaps and not something else in the exhaust system?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, loud on start-up! I haven't actually checked the actuator, to be honest. Where exactly is it located, and is it something I can easily access? Or am I better off just taking it to a workshop?

On my Astra, it was near the exhaust manifold, quite awkward to reach. Without proper tools and some mechanical know-how, it could be tricky. Given the error codes and the noise, you might be better off getting a professional to diagnose it properly. Could save you some headaches in the long run.

Thanks, appreciate the advice. It does sound like it might be beyond my skills. Will book it in at the workshop and see what they say. Hopefully, it won't cost me a fortune to fix, and thanks to your comment I'll suggest checking the flap actuator first. The exhaust flaps were indeed defective! Cost me 190€ to repair it but at least the noise is gone!
