Peugeot 107 gearbox issues

Hi, I've got a 2007 Peugeot 107, diesel engine, with nearly 300,000 km on the clock. Recently, the gearbox has been acting up. The paddle shifters are unresponsive, shifting feels sloppy and sometimes grinds, and the gearbox occasionally goes into emergency mode. I'm also getting error messages stored. Could this be a defective transmission control unit? Is there anything I can check myself before taking it to a mechanic?

Greetings. Your symptoms certainly sound like gearbox issues. It reminds me of a problem I encountered with my old Volvo V50 some time ago. It exhibited similar issues, such as delayed gear changes and an inclination to slip out of gear, especially under load. Could you provide more detail on the stored error messages?

Thanks! The error codes point to the transmission control unit being faulty. My question is, do you think it's definitely the control unit, or could it be something else causing it to throw those codes? Also, how was your Volvo issue eventually solved?

Acknowledged. While I cannot guarantee it is solely the control unit, the error codes combined with the symptoms you describe strongly suggest that is the root cause. In my case with the Volvo, replacing the transmission control module was indeed the resolution. Given the complexity and potential for further damage, I would advise consulting a reputable workshop for a diagnostic assessment and potential replacement of the control unit.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I'll take it to a local shop and have them run diagnostics, but it sounds like a new transmission control unit is likely on the cards. I'll post what I find out when I have more information, but thanks again for confirming my suspicions. Replacing the unit ended up costing me 1000€, but at least my Peugeot is back on the road!
