Peugeot 107 oil pressure warning

My 2012 Peugeot 107, gasoline engine, has a worrying issue. The oil pressure warning lamp lights up intermittently, and there are loud mechanical noises from the engine. It has 46466 km on the clock. I've checked the oil level, and it's fine. I suspect it might be the oil pump. Anyone experienced similar?

Hello! I had something similar happen in my 107. Was the noise consistent, or did it change with engine speed? Have you checked the oil pressure gauge?

Thanks for the quick reply. The noise seems to get louder with higher revs. Unfortunately, there's no oil pressure gauge on this model. I haven't checked for oil leakage. Is it possible the oil filter is clogged?

Okay, in my case the sound was also tied to the engine speed. It turned out to be a defect in the oil pump. I'd recommend having a workshop take a look; running it like that could cause serious damage.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local garage, and they confirmed it was indeed the oil pump. Total repair cost came to 755€. They also advised that engine bearings might have been damaged as a consequence of low oil pressure. I'm glad I caught it in time.
