Peugeot 108 diesel (2016): Erratic engine running and high fuel consumption - suspected defective intake air temperature sensor

Hi guys, I have a problem with my Peugeot 108, diesel, built in 2016 with 89,210 kilometers on it. The Check Engine light is on, the performance is in the basement, the engine is running rough, the whole car twitches when accelerating and the fuel consumption is beyond measure. My last encounter with the garage was pretty bad, so I wanted to ask you guys before I take it back there. I have a feeling it could be the intake air temperature sensor. Have any of you ever experienced something similar and can give me a tip on how best to deal with it? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar story with my Peugeot 206, diesel, built in 2013. The same symptoms as yours: check engine light, uneven running, twitching when accelerating and the abnormally high fuel consumption. I also thought it was something simple at first, but it turned out that it was the evaluation electronics (engine control unit) that was faulty. It was not a minor fault and the car was in the workshop for a few days. But after that, the car ran like clockwork again. I can only advise you to have it checked properly. The intake air temperature sensor doesn't sound quite right to me. If I were you, I would take the car to another garage and have the electronic evaluation system checked. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for the tip! That sounds plausible, at first I really thought it was the intake air temperature sensor. How much did it cost you to repair the engine control unit, if you can remember? And have you noticed any problems with the car since then or is everything running smoothly again? I just need to make sure I don't get a nasty surprise when I take the car in for repairs. In any case, thanks for your advice!

Hey, no problem, that's what we're here for! So, the repair of the engine control unit cost me around €1000. No small matter, but still better than a car that doesn't run properly. And to answer your question: since the repair, everything has been tip-top. I also suspected a problem with the intake air temperature sensor at first, but after the mechanic checked it, it was fine. I don't know, maybe we had the same malfunction. Since then my little one has been running like clockwork again, so I'd say it paid off! I hope this helps you and your Peugeot is back on the road quickly!

Great, I really appreciate your help! 1000€ is of course a lot of money, but if the car runs properly again afterwards, then it will probably be best to have it done. I'll take your advice and go straight to another garage and insist that they check the electronics. I'm definitely more reassured now and feel less stressed when I take the car in. Thank you very much again! Hopefully my problems will be solved.
