Peugeot 108 Hissing Sound Poor Fuel Economy
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Peugeot 108 with a gasoline engine is experiencing poor fuel economy, a check engine light, and a loud hissing sound when accelerating. The issue is suspected to be an air intake leak, possibly from a cracked or split intake hose. The suggested solution is to inspect the hoses connected to the throttle body and air intake for any visible damage or leaks. Ultimately, a split in the intake hose was identified and repaired, resolving the problem.

So, you reckon it's likely an intake hose leaking then? Was it obvious when you found it, or did you have to really hunt around? I'm wondering if it could be a throttle body issue as well?

Pretty sure it's a vacuum leak. On the Corsa, the crack was on the underside of the hose, so it wasn't immediately visible. Give them a good wiggle and listen for changes in the hissing. Honestly, though, with those symptoms, and unless you're really confident, a garage with a smoke machine will find it in minutes. Probably cheaper in the long run!

Took your advice and got it checked out. It was a split in the intake hose. Cost me 100€ to get it sorted. Runs like a dream now. Thanks for the help!

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms with my old Vauxhall Corsa: higher fuel consumption and that tell-tale hissing noise! Check all the hoses connected to the throttle body and air intake, like your vacuum hose. On my Corsa, it was a cracked intake hose. Felt like I was driving a steam train!
