I have noticed a slight increase in fuel consumption. What specific symptoms did you experience with your Opel Astra, and how did you diagnose the PCV valve? Any details on the repair or costs would be helpful.

Okay, so with the Astra, the light came on, and the engine was just... sluggish. Like it was choking. I got a code read – probably worth doing – and it pointed to emissions. PCV valve was the prime suspect. Honestly, I'd get it checked by a pro, especially with the smoke. Sounds like it could be causing more serious problems. I'd take it to a workshop soon!

I consulted a mechanic, and the crankcase ventilation valve was indeed defective. The repair cost 360€, including parts and labor. The symptoms are now resolved, and the car is performing well.

Sounds like PCV valve issues, alright. Had similar stuff happen with my old Opel Astra. Engine light, loss of power... no smoke though, that's rough! It's basically a controlled leak, see? If it's stuck open, it messes with your air/fuel mix and the emissions go wild. Is your fuel consumption also higher than usual?
