Peugeot 2008 diesel particulate filter issue

I'm having a possible issue with my 2016 Peugeot 2008 diesel. It has about 163,178 kilometers. I've noticed reduced engine power and smoke when accelerating. Initial checks suggest the diesel particulate filter might be faulty. Could excessive backpressure in the exhaust system be the cause?

Reduced power and smoke on acceleration definitely points towards the DPF. Have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption lately? How often does the car usually attempt regeneration?

Fuel consumption has increased a bit, maybe 5%. It seems to try regeneration more often. What happens if the regeneration process doesn't finish properly? I don't think it ever completes.

If regeneration fails repeatedly, the DPF will clog more, making things worse. It might even damage other parts. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop. A clogged DPF can lead to very expensive repairs.

Thanks for the advice. I had it inspected, and they confirmed the diesel particulate filter is defective and needs replacing. The total cost was 1550€. Your comments really helped speed things up.
