Peugeot 2008 Engine Idle Problem

Hi, I have a 2017 Peugeot 2008 with a gasoline engine and a problem. The check engine light comes on, and the error memory says something about the engine idle. Sometimes, the engine stalls at idle. It has 281455 km. Any ideas?

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2008 (also gasoline). Check engine light, rough idle, stalling...sound familiar? It could be a faulty idle air control (IAC) valve. This little guy regulates the amount of air that bypasses the throttle plate when the throttle is closed, which is essential for maintaining a stable idle speed. When it fails, the engine doesn't get enough air at idle, causing it to stall. Has the car been breathing heavily lately?

Thanks for your response! What do you mean by 'breathing heavily'? And how did you fix yours?

By 'breathing heavily', I mean is the intake heavily contaminated? This can gunk up the IAC valve and make it stick. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and replace the valve if needed. It's not a super complicated job, but requires some tools and knowledge to do correctly. Could save you some headaches in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop as you suggested. Turns out the intake was heavily contaminated and the idle air control valve was indeed bad. They cleaned everything and replaced the valve. Cost me 425€, but the car runs perfectly now!
