An intake hose, huh? Okay, that's good to know. I haven't really dug into it myself yet, but I was leaning towards something like that. Where exactly should I be looking? Is it easy to spot, or is it hidden away?

In my Volvo, the crack was on the underside of the hose, so it wasn't immediately obvious. Given your symptoms and the age of the vehicle, I'd recommend a thorough inspection of all air intake hoses, especially around joints and bends. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, it might be worth taking it to a reputable workshop for diagnosis. They'll have the tools and experience to pinpoint the leak quickly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! That's super helpful. I'll take a closer look at those hoses, but I think you're right, a shop is probably the best bet. Turns out it was indeed a cracked intake hose. Cost me about 100€ to get it fixed. Appreciate the help!

That does sound annoying. I had similar symptoms in my old Volvo V70 – higher fuel consumption, engine light, and a strange noise. For me, it turned out to be a cracked intake hose between the air filter and the throttle body. Have you inspected the air intake system components for any visible cracks or loose connections? Specifically, check the hose that connects to the turbocharger, if your model is equipped with one.
