Peugeot 2008 Oil Pressure Warning

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2023 Peugeot 2008, gasoline engine. It's done about 73000 km, and a warning light popped up. The oil pressure warning lamp started lighting up intermittently. The oil level seems fine, but the oil itself looks a bit sludgy, almost like there's contamination. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Hey, I also own a 2008, and I had something similar happen a while back. The oil pressure light flickering and the oil looking nasty is not a good sign. Have you checked when your last oil change was? The 'sludgy' look could mean that the oil has broken down, maybe because the maintenance interval was exceeded. This can happen if the oil's viscosity changes due to heat and age, leading to poor lubrication and potentially engine damage. Also, what kind of driving do you usually do? Short trips can cause condensation to build up in the engine, further contaminating the oil.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think you might be right about the maintenance interval. I honestly can't remember the last time I changed the oil. I mostly do city driving, short trips to the shops and back. Would something like an oil additive help, or is it too late for that?

City driving is definitely a contributing factor, especially with shorter distances preventing the engine from reaching optimal temperature to burn off moisture. As for oil additives, they might offer temporary relief, but given the symptoms and the fact that you can't recall the last oil change, it's likely more than just a minor issue. It's probably best to get it to a workshop ASAP and get a proper oil change and filter replacement. They can also check for any potential oil leak or other underlying problems that might be causing the contamination. Running the engine with contaminated oil can lead to more serious and expensive repairs down the line.

Okay, that makes sense. I'll book it in for an oil change and filter replacement at the workshop. They quoted me around 165€, which seems reasonable. Thanks a lot for the advice; it's much appreciated!
