Peugeot 2008 power steering fault

I'm experiencing a power steering fault in my 2017 Peugeot 2008 (gasoline engine, 116644 km). The steering wheel vibrates, handling feels spongy, and an error code is stored. Steering requires significantly more effort, almost like the power steering has failed completely. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered similar issues?

Interesting. I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo V70, although it was a different issue ultimately. Did you check the hydraulic fluid level for the power steering? Low fluid can cause similar symptoms. Also, is the error code specific?

Thanks for the tip. I haven't checked the hydraulic fluid level yet. Where is the hydraulic fluid reservoir located? And yes, the error code is specific, but it only points towards a general malfunction in the power steering system.

On my Volvo, the reservoir was near the steering pump, usually accessible without removing anything major. Given the error code and symptoms, and if the fluid level is fine, it's probably best to get it properly diagnosed. It could be anything from a faulty sensor to the pump itself.

Thanks, that's helpful. I'll check the fluid level and then book it in for a diagnostic check. Turns out it was a defective plug connection, the garage charged me 95€ for the repair.
