Peugeot 206 ABS Fault

I'm in dire straits with my 2003 Peugeot 206, gasoline engine. I'm experiencing a troubling speed signal fault. The ABS lamp keeps illuminating, and I'm also noticing traction problems. The ABS system seems to be failing intermittently. I suspect the control unit is defective. My odometer reads 258257 km. Has anyone encountered something similar?

Whoa, that sounds eerily familiar! I have a 206 as well, and I had almost the exact same symptoms a while back. The ABS light, the traction control going haywire... it was a nightmare. Did you notice anything strange with the speedometer input, or perhaps the odometer reading incorrectly? Maybe it's a sensor issue somewhere?

Speedometer input is not something I had considered. Odometer seems to be working fine, but the speedometer sometimes goes crazy. Did you end up resolving it yourself, or did you need professional help? Any specific sensors I should be checking?

Sadly, I didn't have the tools or knowledge to fix it myself. It turned out to be the ABS control unit, just like you suspect. It was beyond my capabilities, so I had to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They confirmed the diagnosis and replaced the unit. It wasn't cheap, unfortunately. You should take it to a trusted shop and ask them to check the ABS control unit.

I appreciate the insight! I suspected as much, but it's good to have confirmation from someone with a similar experience. I'll take it to a reliable workshop as soon as possible. After they replaced the defective control unit, the final repair cost was about 1000€. Thank you so much for your help!
