Thanks, I'll try that. Where's the head unit located, and how hard is it to access on the 206? Were there any error codes in your Renault when the display failed?

Accessing the head unit can be fiddly, you need specific tools to remove the trim without damaging it. Look up a tutorial online for your model. Yes, there were several error codes related to the display and communication errors on the CAN bus. If fiddling doesn't work, take it to a workshop. Repair cost was 600€ on my Renault, I suspect it will be similar.

Took my Peugeot 206 to a workshop. They confirmed the display was defective. Repair cost was 725€. Thanks for the advice.

I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane. The whole dashboard went dark, not just the audio. Sounds like a defective display. Try wiggling the dashboard controls or checking the wiring harness behind the head unit. Might be a loose connection.
