Yeah, I did a bit of research and the symptoms seemed to point to the camshaft sensor. Plus, I read something about the encoder wheel on those camshafts being a common failure point. But I haven't checked the crankshaft sensor – is that a common cause too?

Indeed, the defective encoder wheel is a plausible cause for such issues, as it directly impacts ignition timing and engine control. Given the symptoms, and considering the potential for further complications, I would strongly suggest consulting a qualified workshop for a comprehensive diagnosis. Failure to address the issue promptly may result in additional damage.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and it was indeed the camshaft sensor and its encoder wheel. Cost me 695€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the help!

That does sound familiar. I had a similar problem with my 206. What makes you think it's the camshaft sensor specifically? Have you checked the crankshaft sensor as well?
