Peugeot 206 climate control unresponsive

I'm having trouble with the climate control in my 2002 Peugeot 206, gasoline engine, with 276475 km on the clock. The climate control panel is completely unresponsive. Diagnostics show an error stored in the memory. The heating output is low, and the AC won't switch on. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. I've checked the obvious fuses, but any ideas where to start troubleshooting the temperature sensor or is there a common problem with the power supply to the electrical connectors on these?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my 206 a while back. The symptoms you describe – error codes, weak heat, and AC failure – are a telltale sign of connector issues. I would start by very carefully checking the connectors going into the climate control panel, and the blower motor. Check for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires.

Thanks for the tip! When you say connectors going into the climate control panel, are we talking about the main wiring harness behind the unit, or is there a specific connector or area that is more prone to failure? Was this a do-it-yourself fix or did you need special tools?

Yes, I meant the main wiring harness behind the unit. On mine, the multi-pin connector had come slightly loose. I tried cleaning it and re-seating it, but the problem came back. Eventually, I just took it to my local mechanic. They diagnosed a faulty connection within the loom and repaired it in under an hour. Probably better to get it checked, especially if you don't have electrical diagnostic tools.

Appreciate the advice. I had it checked by a mechanic, and you were right. It was a defective pin in the connector block. The repair cost 95€, as they had to replace the connector. Thanks again!
