Thanks for the reply! About the fuses, I haven't specifically checked the ignition ones, but I did a quick visual inspection of the fuse box and didn't see anything obviously blown. Are there specific fuses related to the ignition that I should be looking at more closely, and is there any way to properly test them without just looking?

Given the age of the vehicle and the symptoms described, a thorough inspection of all fuses related to the ignition and fuel systems is warranted. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for a diagram of the fuse box and the corresponding fuses. While a visual inspection can sometimes reveal a blown fuse, it is not always conclusive. It is recommended to use a multimeter to test the continuity of each fuse. If, after testing, the fuses are deemed to be in working order, it may be prudent to consult a qualified mechanic for further diagnostic evaluation.

Took your advice and checked the fuses properly with a multimeter. Turns out one of the ignition fuses was indeed blown! Replaced it, and the car is running perfectly again. Cost me all of 52€ for the new fuse and a fuse puller. Thanks a lot for pointing me in the right direction!

I understand you are experiencing difficulties with the starting and running of your 2001 Peugeot 206 diesel. The symptoms you describe, specifically the intermittent starting, engine shut-off, and rough running, could be indicative of several potential issues. Have you verified the integrity of the fuses related to the ignition system? A defective fuse could cause such erratic behavior. It would be helpful if you could provide additional details regarding any recent maintenance or repairs performed on the vehicle.
