Peugeot 206 Fuel Level Sensor Fault

My 2012 Peugeot 206 with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. Check engine light's on, stalls at idle sometimes, and the error memory's screaming about a fuel level sensor fault. I'm suspecting it might just be a dodgy fuse, anyone else seen this before?

I had a similar issue with my 206, although it wasn't the fuse for me. By "stalls at idle", do you mean it just cuts out completely, or does it struggle and nearly cut out? Does the fuel gauge on the dashboard read correctly?

Good questions! Yeah, it cuts out completely sometimes when idling. And you're right to point that out about the fuel gauge, the dashboard is not reading the fuel level correctly either - sometimes it shows full, sometimes empty, sometimes somewhere in between! What was the fix for yours?

Okay, with the gauge reading incorrectly too, it really does sound like the sensor itself. A defective fuel level sensor can definitely cause those symptoms. It's located inside the fuel tank and measures the fuel level. When it fails, it sends incorrect data to the car's computer, hence the check engine light and the idling issue. I would recommend taking it to a workshop for a diagnostic, they should be able to confirm the fault and replace the sensor. It's often easier and safer than trying to do it yourself, especially given the fuel tank is involved.

Cheers for the advice! Took it to the workshop, and you nailed it. Fuel level sensor was indeed the culprit. New sensor fitted, error codes cleared, total damage 52€. Runs like a dream now!
