Peugeot 206 Glow Control Unit Fault

I have a 2009 Peugeot 206 diesel. The preheating lamp doesn't turn off after starting. The check engine light is on, and there's excessive smoke when I accelerate. Diagnostics point to a bad glow control unit. I suspect a problem with the cable or plug connection. The car has 154751 km. Anyone seen this before?
