Peugeot 206 Knocking Combustion

My 2014 Peugeot 206 with a gasoline engine has started knocking after 238148 km. I've noticed reduced power, jerking when accelerating, smoke from the exhaust, and an error code. I suspect combustion chamber deposits. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had something similar with my 206. Is it a pinging sound, especially under load? Reduced power and jerking are classic symptoms. Have you tried higher octane fuel? Cheap fuel can cause pre-ignition.

Yes, it pings under load. I've been using standard unleaded. Do you mean premium gasoline? I know about octane ratings, but didn't realize substandard fuel could cause such knocking. Is the smoke related?

Yep, premium gas. See if that helps. The smoke could be related or separate. If it continues after a tank or two, take it to a shop. Could be a bad knock sensor or worse. Don't risk engine damage.

I took it to a workshop. They confirmed combustion chamber deposits. The cleaning and tuning cost 425€. My Peugeot runs smoothly again!
