Summary of the thread
A 2010 Peugeot 206 diesel exhibited an intermittent oil pressure warning light and alarming engine noises, leading to a suspicion of oil pump failure. The vehicle's mileage of 173,735 km suggested potential wear and malfunction of the oil pump. It was advised to have the car inspected promptly to prevent further engine damage. I checked the oil level, and it's fine. No oil leakage either. The odometer reads 173735 km. Could this mileage contribute to oil pump wear and malfunction?

At that mileage, oil pump failure is definitely plausible, especially with your symptoms. The loud mechanical noises are concerning, as they could indicate damage to the engine bearings due to insufficient lubrication. I'd strongly suggest taking it to a trusted workshop ASAP to prevent further damage.

Thanks for the insight. I took my Peugeot to a workshop, and they confirmed a defective oil pump. The repair cost 755€. Hopefully, this fixes it.

Low oil pressure and engine noise on a 206 diesel often points to oil pump issues. Have you checked the engine oil level and for any obvious signs of oil leakage? Also, what's the mileage?
