Peugeot 206 Overheating

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2003 Peugeot 206 diesel. The engine keeps overheating, and the check engine light is on. I suspect it might be the radiator fan, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Has anyone else experienced this?

Greetings. I understand your predicament, as I had a comparable situation with my Peugeot 206. Given the symptoms you describe, overheating and the check engine light activation, it is plausible that the radiator fan is indeed the origin of the issue. You may wish to examine the thermal switch, as a malfunction there may impede the fan's proper function. I recommend a careful inspection of the fan blades themselves, observing their condition and ensuring unimpeded rotation. Are you able to hear any unusual fan noise prior to the overheating events?

Thanks for the advice! I'll check the fan blades and thermal switch as you suggested. About the noise, I haven't really paid attention... Should I be listening for something specific? Also, where exactly is the thermal switch located? I'm not very familiar with car mechanics.

Affirmative, the presence of abnormal fan noise, such as a grating or grinding sound, might signify internal degradation or obstruction of the fan mechanism. Regarding the thermal switch's position, it is typically situated near the radiator or within the engine block, in proximity to the thermostat housing. However, considering your relative unfamiliarity with automotive systems, I recommend seeking counsel from a qualified technician. It is possible the speed sensor is defective, since that was the case for me and this is a far less obvious problem. Attempting complex repairs without sufficient expertise could potentially exacerbate the issue or cause further harm. Going to the workshop is probably your best bet.

Okay, I understand. Thanks for your help! I took it to a mechanic, and you were right—it was a defective speed sensor! They replaced it, and now the radiator fan is working fine. The repair cost me around 250€. Thanks again for your help!
