Peugeot 206 power steering malfunction

Experiencing a power steering malfunction in my 2005 Peugeot 206 with a gasoline engine. At 112227 km, the steering wheel vibrates/shakes, handling feels spongy, and there's an error stored in the memory. Steering requires significantly increased effort, almost as if the power steering has failed entirely. I suspect it may be a defective cable or plug connection.

Sounds like an issue I've heard of. Is your steering fluid level okay?

I haven't checked the hydraulic fluid yet. But, assuming the fluid level is nominal, do you think the defective cable/plug connection might still be the culprit?

It's possible, but hard to say for sure without proper diagnostics. A workshop visit might be necessary to pinpoint the fault.

Thank you for the advice. I followed your recommendation and had it inspected at a local shop. Turns out it was indeed a faulty connection, resulting in a 95€ repair bill. All is working now!
